My lunch date

Yesterday was my son's Thanksgiving luncheon at his daycare. I met my husband in the parking lot and we walked in to the unknown together. I was a little nervous about going because I had these visions of perfect parents and their perfect children eating perfectly while me, my husband, and my son sat there with mashed potatoes all over ourselves.

Actually, nothing could be further from the truth. My son was just amazing! I have never seen him eat so much - and so neatly! He was just wonderful. He ate everything that they served and he even ate a whole piece of pumpkin pie! He was also in such a good mood. I expected bland school food - but the food was really good. I brought him home after lunch (I took the afternoon off) and he took a nice nap and then we played and played all afternoon.

I will have to say, that was the best lunch date I have ever had.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I've got five senses - say them with me!

Okay, it seems that even my son is tired of the Little People. Thank you, God!

Yesterday, we came home and he wanted to watch a video. So, I put on Little People trying to avoid a tantrum and he sat down with his sippie cup and a puffed cheeto (don't even lecture me on the puffed cheeto - I am trying to keep my sanity here!) and watched the video. Then, he got up, grabbed the remote and handed it to me. So, I asked him if he wanted another video. He nodded yes.

It was then that the heavens opened and a beam of light shone down into my den, glistening upon the dvd player. I hit number three - the slot with the Hi-5* dvd - and immediately my son started dancing and laughing. All was well. He had his very own dance party going and Aaron Neville was not involved.

*Hi-5 is a show on TLC. It's a musical/skit show with a group of five (go figure) people who sing and dance and tell corny jokes. It is WAY better than Little People anyday. Seriously, I will watch it even when my son is not around.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Little People got no reason to live...

The Little People are slowly taking over our house.

There are little people in almost every room. They are on the TV. They are in books. They are everywhere. My son refuses to do anything without a Little People figure (or three) in his hands. He is completely obsessed with them and they are driving us crazy.
My son has to watch the dvd as soon as he wakes up. Damn those Little People and their brainwashing ways! Why do they have to be so nice to everyone?

The sound of Aaron Neville singing that Little People theme song is going to haunt me forever.

In non-Little People news, I am taking a knitting class this Saturday and I am really excited about it. I have tried to learn to knit on my own and just couldn’t get it. So, I am really excited that someone who knows what they are doing is going to teach me.

I also have a new cell phone. I am trying to decide what ringtone to download. Right now, I am torn between the theme from Good Times, the current “rub me down” cheesy ring it has now, or Istanbul (Not Constantanople) from They Might Be Giants. I’ll keep you posted because I am sure you all want to know.

Corn Dog Love

Friends of ours had a birthday party for their two year-old last night. It was a dinner/birthday party at 5:30. So, after rushing home from work and changing a squirming 20 month-old into clean clothes because he had spaghetti sauce all over what he wore to daycare, we ventured a whole five minutes away to the party.

The first part of the party was fine. It was outside and the kids were running around, jumping on the trampoline and climbing on the playscape. Dinner for the kids was chicken fingers, small pb&j sandwiches cut into neat shapes (no crusts), chips, grapes, and juice boxes. Dinner for the parents was chili, salad, bread, baked potatoes and whatever you wanted to drink. Since my son only eats corn dogs right now, his dinner went untouched. I had thought about bringing a corn dog and secretly microwaving it, but I didn’t. Next time, I will. Then, at about 6:50 (I know, I thought it was kinda late), it was time to open presents and have cake and ice cream.

Well, that meant we move inside. With video cameras and flashbulbs popping and people milling all over, the kids went nuts trying to play with each new toy that was unwrapped. It was about this time that my son decided that he wanted to “nut up” and throw a series of tantrums. Why? I’m sure part of it was because he missed his daily corn dog and couldn’t understand why his buddy, the corn dog, was not there to comfort him. After attempting to get him to eat some cake – which he didn’t really want, we thanked our hosts and loaded him in the car to go home. That was the longest five minute drive in my life. By then, it was almost 8:00 p.m.

Let this be a lesson to you. Always have a corn dog handy. Keep one in the car, in your pocket, your purse, your desk, EVERYWHERE.
