Know your role and shut your mouth

I really hate “know-it-alls”. I think the thing that bugs me the most about them is that they are so full of themselves that they really think we care about every single thing they do. They think we really listen to every single comment they make about everything. They really think that we listen to the “advice” that they cram down our throats. They never stop to realize they are driving people away in droves. If they would just stop trying to ram their "knowledge" down everyone's throats, they would probably be a nice person.

I had an experience the other day where a “know-it-all” was just downright rude to another person because the other person didn’t have all of the information about something and dared to ask a question. I actually felt bad and embarrassed for the person who asked the question. Is there any reason for this? I mean, could you just explain things in a manner that is not condescending to the other person?

There is a time and a place. If you really “knew-it-all” you would know your role and shut your mouth.

Five for Friday

I’ve never done a Friday Five. I guess it’s never too late.

So, here we go!

1) What animal best represents you?

Depends. Sometimes, I can be a giraffe -quiet and just part of the scenery. Sometimes, I can be a cornered lion who will cut you to shreds with my claws. Sometimes, I can be a slug (who can’t?). Other times, I can be a lemur because lemurs have no friends. (I read that somewhere).

2) What color best represents you?

Green. Green is a mixture of blue and yellow. What better color to represent a person. Some days you can be blue and some days a sunny yellow. I like to think I stay green most days.

3) What season best represents you?

Fall. I love Fall. I love wearing clothes!! I hate wearing coats. Fall is pretty dependable and peaceful. Peaceful is something I really strive to be.

4) What emotion best represents you?

I’m pretty happy most of the time and I like to make other people happy. I like to make people laugh. Maybe I’m best represented by “goofy.” Yeah, goofy would have to be it.

5) What flower/tree/plant best represents you?

Is it the willow that bends but doesn’t break? If so, I am a willow – NOT a weeping willow. I think I bend – A LOT. I think it really takes a lot of crap to break me. That’s something that I don’t want to lose – my ability to bend when I need to.

Of course, that doesn’t mean I’ll bend all the time…

Paintin' the powder room

So, we have been working on painting my bathroom for…oh, about three weeks. And I know you are thinking, “Gee, didn’t I see your bathroom on MTV’s Cribs? It’s the one that is about 2400 square feet with the huge windows and the five walk in closets, right?”

No.

It’s not even that big of a bathroom. There are many reasons why it is taking three weeks (or more) to complete.

1. We have to work on it after my 17 month-old son goes to sleep.

2. It’s hot as hell down here – even with air conditioning.

3. The previous owners painted horrible beige and white vertical stripes on the walls. These stripes not only have to be covered with primer, but they leave a nice vertical ridge where the two different types of paint that they used meet.

4. We have to disconnect the toilet to paint behind it. Fun!

5. We have to sand, prime, and paint the vanity cabinet – not to mention replace the hinges and knobs that were a hideous brass finish and are now a dull, peeling yellowy color.

6. We have to take down an ugly light fixture to paint behind it because we bought a really nice light fixture that does not look like a bad dressing room at a strip club.
